Fase Madrid model PARALEX by Tomás Diaz Magro 1960's Spain
The Paralex Table Lamp, designed by Tomás Díaz Magro and produced by Fase Madrid, is a striking design with an industrial aesthetic that seamlessly incorporates wood elements in both its base and shade. Its name is derived from the two parallel chrome arms that support the adjustable and articulated shade, allowing for horizontal movement. This ingenious combination of form and function perfectly encapsulates the innovative approach of Tomás Díaz Magro, a leading figure in Spanish mid-century lighting design.
Created in the late 1960s, the Paralex is one of the most distinctive lamps crafted by Magro for the iconic Fase Madrid brand. Its production, however, was short-lived, making it an exceptionally rare and coveted piece today. By the time of a catalog dated around 1972–73, the Paralex was the only model from a series of six designs no longer featured, underscoring its rarity and collectible appeal.
The lamp features an acrylic shade that has some minor deformations caused by the heat of the bulbs over time. However, these do not interfere with the overall aesthetic or functionality of the piece and are clearly visible in the images. Its unique blend of materials, rarity, and timeless design make it a true treasure for collectors of Spanish mid-century modern lighting.
