Guzzini Orange Plexiglas Umbrella Stand, Attributed to Luigi Massoni, 1970s
Sculptural and space-age, this bold umbrella stand is attributed to Luigi Massoni for Guzzini, one of Italy’s most forward-thinking lighting and plastics manufacturers of the 1970s. Made from a single sheet of thermoformed Plexiglas, the piece features a freeform, softly contoured silhouette that echoes the organic lines of Aalto’s Savoy vase—reinterpreted in vivid translucent orange with a radical Pop flair.
The plastic captures and radiates light in glowing tones, making it especially eye-catching in sunlight or near windows. Originally designed as an umbrella stand, it also works beautifully as a sculptural object or statement vase in modern, retro-futurist, or Memphis-style interiors.
Marked “Guzzini” on the underside, this rare model is in good original condition, with light scratches and signs of wear consistent with age and use. A vivid icon of Italian design’s playful, experimental spirit.
