Large Space Age Smoked Acrylic Dome Mushroom Lamp in Style of Martinelli 1970s

Large Space Age Smoked Acrylic Dome Mushroom Lamp in Style of Martinelli 1970s

SKU: 944

This impressive Space Age table lamp from the 1970s exemplifies the sculptural experimentation and futuristic material language that characterised European lighting design of the period. With a generous 44 cm dome diameter and a height of 48 cm, the lamp has a strong architectural presence, functioning equally as a lighting object and a sculptural design statement.

The shade is formed from smoked acrylic, a material widely used during the late 1960s and 1970s for its ability to diffuse light while maintaining a dramatic visual character. When unlit, the dome appears as a deep translucent smoky brown surface with reflective qualities that emphasise its pure hemispherical geometry. Once illuminated, the acrylic transforms into a warm amber glow, softly diffusing the light and creating a striking atmospheric effect beneath the dome.

Supporting the dome is a polished chromed pedestal base composed of stacked cylindrical and spherical elements rising from a circular platform. The reflective chrome contrasts elegantly with the smoked acrylic shade while reinforcing the lamp’s futuristic presence. The switch is discreetly integrated into the base, preserving the clean sculptural profile typical of Space Age design.

With its large scale, dramatic illumination, and sculptural silhouette, the lamp functions both as a source of ambient light and as a bold design object, perfectly suited to interiors inspired by Space Age, mid-century modern, or contemporary design environments.
