Pair of IKEA Lakene White Strips Pendant Lamps by Brylle and Jacobsen, 2000s

Matched pair of Lakene pendant lamps produced by IKEA in the 2000s, based on the Strips design by Flemming Brylle and Preben Jacobsen. Each lamp is a compact spherical construction made from concentric white plastic bands held inside a transparent acrylic framework. Together they form a balanced pair suitable above a dining table, kitchen island or along a hallway.
Viewed from the side, each shade resembles a white globe built from a series of horizontal rings. The bands increase in diameter toward the centre and then decrease again toward the base, defining a rounded profile without closing the surface. Clear intersecting acrylic plates pass vertically through the rings and lock the separate elements into position. Because the support structure is transparent, the white bands appear to float around the light source.
The design becomes especially graphic when viewed from below. The rings align as a sequence of circles around a dark central hub, while the clear radial supports divide the shade like spokes. When illuminated, light washes across the curved white strips and produces a warm amber glow. The spaces between the bands allow additional light to escape, creating alternating bright and shadowed circles on the shade and a soft ambient effect in the room.
Each pendant measures approximately 35 cm high and 35 cm in diameter. Both retain white electrical cords, matching ceiling roses and their original IKEA fittings. The internal labels identify the type as T0821, specify a maximum 60-watt bulb and record manufacture in Lithuania. The construction can be visually read as a meeting of Scandinavian functionalism and Space Age geometry: simple repeated components create a surprisingly sculptural volume.
The two lamps are offered and sold together. They are in good vintage condition with light scratches, scuffs and mild discolouration to the white plastic bands. The clear acrylic supports show surface marks and small signs of handling, and the fittings have age-related wear. Both shades retain their complete circular structure and are photographed illuminated. Vintage electrical components should be inspected by a qualified electrician for compatibility with local standards before installation.
