Pair Portuguese Art Nouveau Brass Table Lamps Etched Shades Floral Motifs c1900

SKU: 918

This pair of Portuguese Art Nouveau brass table lamps, produced circa 1900–1920, reflects the refined decorative metalwork characteristic of early 20th-century Portuguese craftsmanship. Their design embodies the organic sensitivity of the Art Nouveau movement, where floral motifs, soft curves, and hand-applied detailing were elevated into elegant everyday objects.

Each lamp features a beautifully embossed brass shade, decorated with stylised floral and ribbon-like motifs typical of Portuguese repoussé work from the period. These etched elements animate the conical form of the shade, offering a delicate contrast between ornament and geometry. The slender brass stems, topped with sculptural ring finials, are height-adjustable, allowing the shades to be positioned for reading or ambient illumination. Arched brass arms provide directional functionality while contributing to the lamps’ graceful silhouettes.

The stepped circular bases echo the decorative vocabulary of the shades, unifying the lamps visually. A warm, untouched patina—developed naturally over more than a century—adds depth and authenticity, highlighting the quality of the original hand-worked brass.

Both lamps are in good original vintage condition, with age-appropriate wear and patina, and have been rewired for safe contemporary use. A rare surviving Portuguese pair, they offer atmospheric period lighting with strong decorative presence.
