Verner Panton Collected Works Book Multicolor Hardcover Vitra Design Museum

This comprehensive monograph, published by the Vitra Design Museum in 2000, represents the most complete and authoritative survey of Verner Panton’s work to date. Produced in conjunction with the landmark retrospective exhibition, the book spans 386 pages and documents the full scope of Panton’s radical contribution to 20th-century design.
Rather than isolating a handful of iconic pieces, the publication approaches Panton’s practice as a total design philosophy. Furniture, lighting, textiles, interiors, exhibition environments, and architectural projects are presented together, reflecting the designer’s belief that space, colour, material, and form must operate as a unified whole. The book moves fluidly between chronology and theme, allowing the reader to understand both the evolution of Panton’s ideas and their broader cultural and technological context.
The volume is richly illustrated with archival photographs, drawings, prototypes, installation views, and period documentation, many reproduced at large scale. These visuals are supported by scholarly essays and detailed captions written by curators and historians closely involved with the exhibition and the Panton archive. Lesser-known projects, temporary installations, and experimental works are given equal weight, making this an essential reference rather than a selective highlight reel.
Produced to museum standards, the book features high-quality printing, a solid hardcover binding, and a carefully considered graphic layout consistent with Vitra’s editorial approach. Today, it remains a cornerstone reference for collectors, designers, institutions, and anyone with a serious interest in postwar modernism and experimental design culture.
